NFPA 855 – Standard for the Installation of Stationary Energy Storage Systems

Chapter 1 Administration
۱-۱ * Scope. This standard applies to the design, construction, installation, commissioning, operation, maintenance, and decommissioning of stationary energy storage systems (ESS), including mobile and portable ESS installed in a stationary situation and the storage of lithium metal or lithium-ion batteries.
۱-۲ Purpose. This standard provides d1e minimum requirements for mitigating the hazards associated with ESS and the storage of lid1ium metal or lithium-ion batteries.
۱-۳* Application. This standard shall apply to ESS installations exceeding the values shown in Table 1.3 and the storage of lithium metal or lithium-ion batteries.
۱-۳-۱ * ESS shall comply wid1 the requirements of d1is standard as applicable.
۱-۳-۲ ESS installed in one- and two-family dwellings and townhouse units shall only be required to comply with Chapter 15.
