NFPA 79 – Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery

Chapter 1 Administration
۱-۱* Scope.
۱-۱-۱ The provisions of this standard shall apply to the electrical/electronic equipment, apparatus, or systems of industrial machines supplied from a nominal voltage of 1000 volts or less, and commencing at the point of connection of the supply circuit conductors to the electrical equipment of the machine.
۱-۱-۲* This standard does not include the additional requirements for machines intended for use in hazardous (classified) locations.
۱-۲ Purpose. This standard shall provide detailed information for the application of electrical/electronic equipment, apparatus, or systems supplied as part of industrial machines that will promote safety to life and property.
۱-۳ Application.
۱-۳-۱ This standard is not intended to be applied retroactively.
۱-۳-۲ When changes other than repairs are made to machines that do not comply with the provisions of this standard, the changes shall conform to the provisions of this standard.
۱-۳-۳ This standard shall not apply to the following:
(۱) Fixed or portable tools judged under the requirements of a testing laboratory acceptable to the authority having jurisdiction.
(۲) Machines used in dwelling units.
