Chapter 1 General
۱-۱ Scope.
۱-۱-۱ This standard shall apply to the storage, handling, and processing of magnesium solids at magnesium foundries, processing plants, and commercial storage facilities.
۱-۱-۲ This standard shall also apply to the storage, handling, processing, and manufacture of magnesium powder.
۱-۱-۳ This standard shall not apply to the primary production of magnesium.
۱-۱-۴* This standard shall not apply to the transportation of magnesium in any form on public highways, waterways, or by air or rail.
۱-۱-۵ The requirements of NFPA 650, Standard for Pneumatic Conveying Systems for Handling Combustible Particulate Solids, shall not apply to magnesium.
۱-۲ Purpose. The purpose of this standard is to minimize the occurrence of and resulting damage from fire and explosion hazards in the storage, handling, processing, and manufacture of magnesium solids and powders.
