NFPA 400 – Hazardous Materials Code

Chapter 1 Administration
۱-۱ Scope.
۱-۱-۱ * Applicability. This code shall apply to the storage, use, and handling of the following hazardous materials in all occupancies and facilities:
(۱) Ammonium nitrate solids and liquids
(۲) Corrosive solids and liquids
(۳) Flammable solids
(۴) Organic peroxide formulations
(۵) Oxidizer – solids and liquids
(۶) Pyrophoric solids and liquids
(۷) Toxic and highly toxic solids and liquids
(۸) Unstable (reactive) solids and liquids
(۹) Water-reactive solids and liquids
(۱۰) * Compressed gases and cryogenic fluids as included within the context of NFPA 55
۱-۱-۱-۱ Occupancies. Unless otherwise specified in this code, all occupancy definitions and classifications shall be in accordance with the building code.
۱-۱-۱-۲ Multiple Hazards. Hazardous mate1·ials that are classified in more than one hazard category, as set forth 111 Section 4.1, shall conform to the code requirements for each hazard category.
