NFPA 251 – Standard Methods of Tests of Fire Resistance of Building Construction and Materials
Chapter 1 Administration
۱-۱* Scope.
This standard provides methods of fire tests for the fire-resistive properties of building members and assemblies.
۱-۲ Purpose.
۱-۲-۱ This standard describes methods to evaluate the duration for which the types of assemblies noted in 1.3.1 contain a fire, retain their structural integrity, or exhibit both properties, depending on the type of assembly involved during a predetermined test exposure.
۱-۲-۲ It is the intention of this standard that fire resistance ratings be based on performance during the period of exposure and not be used to determine suitability for use after fire exposure.
۱-۲-۳* The results of these tests are one factor in assessing fire performance of building construction and assemblies.
۱-۳ Application.
۱-۳-۱ These methods of fire tests apply to assemblies of masonry units and to composite assemblies of structural materials for buildings, including bearing and other walls and partitions, columns, girders, beams, slabs, and composite slab and beam assemblies for floors and roofs.
